This is a Permanent Full-time role, located in our Perth Office CBD.


About the Role:


This role is accountable for technical leadership within the Distribution Design and Standards Area of the Engineering & Design function accountable for driving prudent, innovative and efficient engineering design standards and standard designs related to the distribution network.  You will also provide expert advice and guidance to internal staff and the wider Western Power community related to distribution equipment specifications, network design and construction. 


About you:


The successful applicant will be experienced and competent in the following:


  • Tertiary qualification in Civil/Structural Engineering – essential.
  • Member of Engineers Australia (eligible or hold Chartered membership) – essential.
  • At least 15 years of experience in an electrical utility networks business including at least 7 years of experience in the design and construction of overhead and underground distribution networks.  Experience in civil/structural line design will be highly regarded.
  • Comprehensive understanding of relevant industry and Australian standards, regulatory requirements and best practices across Australia applicable to the design and construction of the distribution network.
  • In depth knowledge of asset management principles, specifications and standards, including safety in design principles.
  • Ability to drive innovation and value in distribution network equipment, engineering standards and design solutions.
  • Ability to understand and articulate internal customer’s needs (as well as ability to understand implicit technical requirements)
  • An understanding of risk management and its business applications
  • Demonstrated commitment to safety.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills and ability to develop strong and trusting relationships with internal customers and stakeholders.
  • Ability to undertake detailed engineering and technical analysis and prepare technical reports.
  • Ability to communicate technical information to technical and non-technical audiences.
