We currently have an exciting opportunity for a Senior Distribution Design Engineer at our South Metro Depot-Forrestdale, on a Full-Time permanent basis.
About this role
As the Senior Distribution Design Engineer you will be required to undertake/coordinate/analyse/approve complex engineering designs associated with Western Power or customer facilities connected to the Distribution Network. Conduct engineering investigations and manage engineering information. Lead with technical development and process improvements.
What you’ll be doing
- Production / coordination / analysis / approval of accurate project inputs and outputs for work associated with the distribution network. This will include the provision of specialist technical information.
- Complete all documentation, technical assessments, entering and maintaining of information in applicable computer systems, ensuring business processes are adhered to.
- Ensure technical compliance across the design community to design and specifications and identify non-conformances as appropriate; review designs, work performance, works programs as required.
- Respond to correspondence and queries raised by internal and external stakeholders on projects issued via the applicable corporate systems.
- Ensure appropriate change management processes are followed with an appropriate level of documentation. This can include variations to projects, procedures, programs and/or processes.
- Prepare management reports for submission to the Formal Leader.
- Schedule and plan own daily and weekly allocated work in order to meet agreed targets.
- Provide high level technical support and guidance to team members and other work groups in the form of specialist advice on all aspects of the integration of distribution assets into the network.
- Ensure compliance with all Western Power standard, quality, legal and contractual requirements.
- Lead by example to continuously improve health and safety performance via a strong focus on safety in design.
- Plan and coordinate activities to achieve the results, standards and budget as expected.
- Set priorities for your own work and other contributors. Assist the formal leader in balancing resources and assessing project priorities.
- Provide extensive mentoring and coaching within the section and to the wider Western Power community.

- Must possess a Degree in Electrical Engineering, or equivalent.
- Eligible for corporate membership of The Institution of Engineers, Australia.
- Preferably 8 – 10 years’ experience in a utility engineering company.
- An extensive knowledge of distribution standards, policies and procedures:
- Distribution substation design, drafting and estimating processes.
- Power system primary plant and secondary plant/systems.
- Best practice project and work management processes.
- Sound understanding of the interactions of related disciplines impacting on distribution design, including civil/structural issues and environmental issues.
- Sound understanding of distribution construction practices and processes.
- Takes initiative to identify innovative new methods, processes or systems in the functional area
- Partners in the development and deployment of innovation and continuous improvement
- Provide technical leadership, coaching mentoring. Ensures own work and that of other contributors is to the defined standard.
- Have ability to complete project/assignment within specific guidelines.
- Demonstrated skill in priority setting, activity planning and organizing.
- Demonstrated skills in problem solving and root cause analysis.
- Have skill in developing and maintaining work standards.
- Demonstrated team work and conflict resolving skills.
- Able to identify and to develop methods, processes and systems for continuous improvement
- Valid WA Driver’s License Class ‘C’ or ‘C-A’
