We currently have an exciting opportunity for a Senior Operations Engineer at Western Power Perth Office (363 Wellington Street) on a Permanent Full-Time basis.


About this role


As the Senior Operations Engineer you will be part of the team that operates the Western Power network and play a key role in delivering Western Power’s significant transmission system expansion projects.


  • Deliver the operational requirements of Western Power’s major transmission works program, including studies, contingency planning, and operational guidelines
  • Assess and manage network outage requests and work collaboratively with the Australian Energy Market Operator to ensure outages are undertaken safely.
  • Investigate safety, reliability and system security incidents and issues relating to Western Power network
  • Undertake power system studies to support real-time operations and outage planning
  • Prepare and review operational guidelines, operating procedures and protocols


About you 


We are seeking someone with experience and attributes that include:


  • Degree in Engineering – essential
  • Eligible for Professional Engineer membership (MIEAust) with Engineers Australia is Desirable
  • A seasoned professional with a minimum of 9+ year’s broad and extensive knowledge and expertise in electrical or power engineering environment with substantial experience in transmission related areas
  • Extensive power generation knowledge/experience
  • Competent subject matter expertise and technical leadership skills and well-developed written, verbal and communications skills
  • Strong proficiency in computer systems .e.g. DM, Microsoft Office, Power Point, and load flow and fault level studies.
  • Competent customer and stakeholder engagement skills
  • Competent in transmission planning and safe network operation experience
  • Experience in analysing transmission system security issues with recommendation for actions
  • Strong electrical engineering knowledge with respect to HV/LV construction, maintenance and commissioning practices, power station, protection, SCADA, and communications systems and practices across transmission and distribution networks
