The final stage of a $5 million package of maintenance and upgrade work in Cunderdin and Meckering will get underway from 10 January, 2024.
This includes the replacement of more than 290 poles, 47kms of overhead powerlines, installation of LED streetlights, upgrading reclosers and other essential maintenance.
Western Power Executive Manager of Asset Operations Zane Christmas said the work was aimed at upgrading network assets to maintain a high level of network safety and reliability while improving resilience to major weather events.
The fourth and final stage is scheduled from 10 to 30 January 2024 to be delivered by Perth based company Genus Infrastructure, and includes replacing approximately 10 poles, 17kms of high voltage overhead lines, two streetlights and other essential maintenance in the area.
“We’re committed to improving reliability of power for regional communities like those in Cunderdin and Meckering, and that’s reflected in this infrastructure investment,” Mr Christmas said.
“We’ve worked closely with the community and stakeholders, including the Shire of Cunderdin prior to this work commencing, and it has been broken into stages to reduce the impact on the community,” he said.
To ensure the safety of residents and crews, power interruptions will be necessary while work is undertaken.
Affected customers will be directly notified of outage dates and times by Western Power a minimum of three business days prior (but typically up to 10 business days).
“We also plan to connect two temporary generators in Meckering to reduce the impact of these power outages,” he said.
“We understand planned works can cause some short-term inconvenience, but we expect these upgrades to bring long-term improvements to power supply to the town.
“Our crews will work as safely and efficiently as possible to minimise any interruptions.”
