Growth of undergrounding in WA
Undergrounding has been an integral part of the Western Australian power supply since the late 1970s. By 1991, all new urban subdivisions were constructed using underground power, and since 1996, there have been retrospective projects to convert overhead power to underground power. To date, in addition to the new subdivisions, there have been 95 undergrounding projects completed with around 100,000 properties retrospectively connected to underground power. The programs are conducted as a joint venture between local governments, the state government, and Western Power.
